This year marks a significant time for the Queensland 400, as it is our 10th anniversary.

Launched in 2002 by Queensland Business Review (QBR), the Queensland 400 (Q400) is a unique program that recognises and celebrates these ‘local business heroes’ – the inspirational but largely unknown owners behind our leading privately-owned companies.

Privately-owned companies are the engine room of the Queensland economy. Yet despite their economic importance, their achievements receive little recognition.

The program – culminating in the launch of the official list of the State’s 400 largest privately-held enterprises at the prestigious Queensland 400 Gala Awards Dinner – is now widely considered the premier forum through which Queensland’s top business owners connect and receive recognition for their achievements.

Based on the prestige associated with the brand, the Q400 today attracts participation from a large number of Queensland’s most successful business owners – with the Awards drawing 400-500 entrepreneurs from an impressive group of companies that boasted close to $14 billion in combined revenues and a collective workforce of some 40,000 in 2010.

Most importantly, though, the Q400 continues to attract plaudits from the very companies it seeks to serve, with 51 percent of respondents to a 2010 survey of participants saying membership provides 'recognition/acknowledgement of success/accomplishment/sense of pride'; and a further 13 percent saying it means they are 'part of a prestigious/successful/special group of companies'.

It is not surprising, therefore, that many of Australia’s leading companies choose to associate with the Q400 brand.

Participation is open to all privately owned Queensland companies.
