Export beef processing company Teys Bros has proven its resilience to the downturn by retaining number one position in QBR’s 2010 Queensland 400.

However, this year’s list sees significant changes to both the composition and rankings of the State’s top, privately-owned businesses.

Most significantly, the 2010 rankings welcome two new entrants to the top 10: Yatala-based pet-food maker VIP Petfoods jumps 11 spots to sixth and recruitment group WorkPac leaps seven spots to eighth.

Dropping out of the top 10 is Kunda Park-based construction company Evans Harch, which falls two spots to 11th.

Energy generator ERM Power continues its dramatic rise through the list, jumping four places to third, while construction and property development group BMD edges further up the list to occupy second spot.

Rounding out the top ten are: Hutchinson Builders (4), Australian Country Choice (5); Pickering Investments (7); Sarina Russo Job Access Australia (9); and EGR (10).

More than 370 of the State’s top business leaders gathered at Brisbane’s Sofitel Hotel on Friday night (October 29) for QBR’s annual award gala dinner.

In addition to the official unveiling of the Q400 list, 13 individual awards were also presented.

Category winners include: WorkPac (8) business and personal services; Dialog (13) information communication and technology; VIP Petfoods (6) manufacturing; BMD Group (2) property & construction; Pickering Investments (7) retail & wholesale; and Apollo Motorhome Holidays (15) tourism & hospitality.

The award for top new entrant went to Orionstone (35); PWR Performance Products (164) won the innovation category; Perfect Potion (211) was praised for environmental sustainability; and the global star prize went to Noja Power.

Two rising star awards were also given out to companies which have gained the most places in the official ranking: Index Group (+123) and 3w IT Consulting & Contracting (+111).

The evening featured a presentation from keynote speaker Phil Smart, Managing Director of WorkPac, and Rolf Larson partner at BDO, the foundation partner of the Q400.

Both BDO and Queensland University of Technology are premium partners of the Q400 program; award sponsors are UK Trade and Investment, and OAMPS Insurance Brokers.
