September 9, 2010Queensland’s unemployment rate was down to 5.4 percent in August from 5.6 percent in July, according to new
ABS data out today.
Australia's unemployment rate also decreased 0.2 percentage points to 5.1 percent (seasonally adjusted) as 30,900 people joined the work force.
This marked rise in employment (to 11.272 million employed persons) was driven by an increase in full-time employment, up 53,100 people to 7.920 million.
However, this was partially offset by a decrease in part-time employment, down 22,100 people to 3.352 million.
According to the ABS, the number of people unemployed Australia-wide decreased by 22,500 people to 607,700 in August.
Meanwhile, the seasonally adjusted monthly aggregate hours worked series showed a rise in August, up 14.8 million hours to 1,594.1 million hours.
The participation rate in August decreased 0.1 percentage point to 65.4 percent.
