September 6, 2010Indigo Telecom Australia today announced a major breakthrough for mobile satellite communications in the Asia-Pacific region with the commercial launch of its Stargate solution.
Chief Technology Officer Yuval Hertzog says Indigo’s customers throughout Australia and the Asia Pacific can now use a mobile satellite service network with a dedicated Global IP Backbone and Point of Presence (PoP) based in Brisbane.
“This provides our customers with secure access to Australia’s first PoP for Thuraya mobile satellite data traffic,” Hertzog says.
“Our dedicated VPN, PoP and Global IP Backbone will enable Indigo customers in the region to terminate all mobile satellite data traffic locally, reducing traffic transmission distances and times,” he says.
Set to increase security, performance, reliability and data integrity, the Stargate solution is expected to benefit various industries including: mining; oil & gas; long-haul transport; defence and government services.
“The Stargate solution offers our customers a wide range of networking technologies (IP-Sec, ISDN, leased line, MPLS, etc.) to suit companies’ varying data connectivity, quality of service and security needs,” Hertzog adds.
Indigo Telecom’s Brisbane PoP is integrated into a multi-billion dollar hybrid communications network providing customer access to a ‘Global IP Backbone’ supporting a number of services including video, critical data, interactive data and standard data.
The network is extensive covering Australia, South Korea, United Kingdom, Indonesia, Thailand, Hong Kong, New Zealand, US, Malaysia, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, Philippines, plus 52 cities in China and selected European countries.
