The state’s largest annual tourism awards are being handed back to the industry with the Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC) taking over management of the Queensland Tourism Awards this year.

The Queensland Tourism Awards 2010, presented by Queensland Airports Limited (QAL), marks the 26th year of the largest and most highly regarded tourism awards, with QAL signing on for a three-year sponsorship deal.

The Awards cover the largest cross-section of tourism industries in Queensland, and will be hosted this year by QTIC on November 19 at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.

QTIC chief executive Daniel Gschwind says the Council is proud to take over the reins of such a prestigious event in the Queensland tourism industry calendar.

“We have been working with Tourism Queensland for the past 14 years in organising the judging and nomination process of the annual Queensland Tourism Awards, and this year we are happy to see the awards put completely back into the hands of the industry,” Gschwind says.

“We thank Tourism Queensland for undertaking the awards thus far, and they will continue to support us as we take on the awards this year, along with Queensland Airports Limited who we are pleased to announce as our three-year principal sponsor,” he says.

“We have seen a substantial increase in nominations this year, so we are confident the Awards will continue to grow under our management as the representative body of the Queensland tourism industry.”

When they judge on facts not written submissions the awards will have some credibility until then the awards are a joke and do the industry no good at all
