July 20, 2010Zarraffa’s Coffee and the
Burleigh Brewing Company (BBC) have joined forces to bring Australians their two favourite beverages in one unique bottle.
The aptly named, Black Giraffe – a mix of Burleigh’s finest lager and Zarraffa’s unique aromatic coffee – was today bottled in dinner size (650ml), screen printed collectible bottles.
With only 600 cartons being produced, the new beer is the Gold Coast-based brewery’s second release from its Bit On The Side Department, so enthusiasts will have to move fast to get a taste.
To create the boutique blend BBC Brewmaster, Brennan Fielding, combined his brewing expertise with Zarraffa’s CEO Kenton Campbell’s impressive coffee knowledge.
“You couldn’t find two guys more into flavour,” Campbell says.
“It’s really been a fun collaboration taking our brewing and coffee know-how and packing it into a beer,” he says.
The verdict: “A very smooth tasting beer with a nice hint of coffee, which is not overpowering and leaves a very pleasant aftertaste.”
THE PERFECT MIXCampbell is as passionate about coffee as the BBC is about beer and Zarraffa’s multi-awarding winning Roastery was the perfect place to turn to provide the vital ingredient for the coffee-flavoured lager.
Six-hundred hundred kilos of 100 percent Mexican rainforest alliance coffee beans were used in the making of Black Giraffe.
In early June the collaboration took flight with the BBC team working alongside the Zarraffa’s Coffee team to grind hundreds of kilos of 100 percent rainforest alliance coffee beans in a one-hour window, ready to be poured directly into the brewing beer.
“It’s partnerships like this and new product development that keeps us interested in innovating our coffee blends and delivering superior flavour, whatever the end use,” Campbell adds.
The Black Giraffe will be available in selected bottle shops and restaurants from July 26.
