One hundred and forty-four of the state's best employers, apprentices, trainees and vocational students are preparing to compete in their local finals as part of the Queensland Training Awards.

Education and Training Minister Geoff Wilson says the Government’s industry awards program honours achievements across a host of industries vital to Queensland's success.

"Queensland's vocational education and training programs are highly regarded around the world and, at a local level, help communities reap the benefits of skilled workers and competitive industries," Wilson says.

"Whether it is in a workplace or a school classroom, Queenslanders are working hard to keep their skills relevant, which helps improve services and strengthen local economies,” he says.

Seven regional finals will be held across the state during July and August.

Winners then progress to the state final in September at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, where finalists in a further four categories will also be presented.

State winners will also have the chance to enter the Australian Training Awards held in Sydney in November.
