Today marks an important day for women involved in Queensland’s building and construction industry, with the official unveiling of Buildmore's ‘Women into Building’ (WIB) housing showcase on the Sunshine Coast.

The predominately female designed and constructed environmentally friendly home is the brainchild of 2009 QBR Women in Business Award finalist Sam Sheppard (pictured).

A strong advocate for women in ‘unconventional’ industries, Sheppard launched the WIB Housing Showcase last year, which has since attracted interest from various parties.

The land – purchased by the Buildmore Group – is situated in the Master Builder's Display Village in Investa's Bellflower neighbourhood, Sippy Downs.

Senator Kate Lundy (ACT), who is the National Patron for the WIB Project, travelled up from Canberra to carry out the official unveiling honours this morning.

Sheppard - a licensed builder and driving force behind the project – spoke enthusiastically about the project.

“What a journey, from acquiring such a fantastic location, to gaining endorsement from essential Key Industry Stakeholders, to being fortunate enough to interact with each and every person who contributed towards producing such outstanding results,” she says.

“This project successfully achieved the goals we set. A home is not built by one person or one business, it is built by an industry and this project demonstrates an industry that came together for a cause; a positive message and a show of unity. We should all be very proud.”

With the Sunshine Coast Council aiming to be recognised as Australia’s most sustainable region; the environmental principles underpinning the passive design of the WIB project further cements the Coast’s commitment to achieving this goal.

The WIB showcase will be open to public from Tuesday, April 27.
