Australia’s largest franchised flooring retailer Andersens has made a welcome return to its birth place by finalising investment in a refurbishment of its office and warehouse complex at Gatton.

The agricultural community situated in the Lockyer Valley is where founder Jack Andersen first started the company in 1958.

While Andersens could have relocated anywhere from Brisbane to Yatala, it chose to remain firmly fixed in Gatton and supply its network of 49 franchised and four company-owned stores from the area.

According to Andersen, it is part of a “down home and caring” philosophy which has propelled the company to the front of the hotly competitive floor coverings market.

“What is it that separates Andersens from other floor covering companies in 2010? Well apart from having a trusted name which has been operating for over 50 years we attribute much of our success to an outstanding devotion to making customers satisfied first time, every time,” he says.

“Perhaps it is our country roots but from the beginning we have always maintained that our customers are our livelihood and we are therefore 100 percent committed to ensuring their satisfaction comes first.”

Ensuring the delivery of fast and professional service was a main consideration in selecting Gatton as the company’s chief operating hub.

“Our large, centralised warehousing facility that we’ve just refurbished allows us to have large volumes of stock readily available at all times so our customers can be assured that in most instances we can supply, deliver and install their new floorings with minimal turnaround time,” Andersen explains.

Showroom on wheels

Keeping ahead of the market is a challenge Andersens faces along with the rest of Queensland businesses.

In order to make the selection process easier for customers, Andersen developed the “showroom on wheels” concept which pioneered the home shopping experience in floor coverings.

“It’s like having a store in your home but better as you can check how the colours match your walls, furnishings and other decor. You can also see the flooring in the exact lighting conditions where it will be laid. We’ve also started a new ‘Shop At Work’ service that provides the same service to businesses and it’s proving equally popular,” Andersen says.

“This high standard of service and meeting the market with new and innovative ways to meet the needs of consumers in our convenience-driven society helps keep us and our franchisees on top of our game at our stores throughout Queensland and northern New South Wales,” he says.
