Roads damaged by floods in the north and north-west of Queensland earlier this year are finally due to be fixed in a $44.4 million project laid out by the State Government.

The Natural Disaster Recovery and Relief Arrangements program will repair parts of the Bruce and Flinders highways that were most affected by the floods, Queensland Minister for Roads Craig Wallace says.

“The flood damage bill for sections of the Bruce Highway between Ingham and Innisfail is estimated to be around $40 million,” Wallace says.

“A $3.7 million project to repair and restore 10km of the Bruce Highway south of Cardwell will start this week.

“Other flood damage repair and restoration work in progress this month are on sections of road between Tully and El Arish, and south of Tully just north of the Bilyana Rest Area."

Wallace says the Flinders Highway will receive $4.4 million for repair and restoration works on the 84km stretch between Richmond and Julia Creek.

Work on the Flinders is expected to be completed by the end of November, while repairs on the Bruce will finish up a month later.
