Watpac’s Construction division won five prizes at the Australian Institute of Building National Professional Excellence in Building Awards in Brisbane over the weekend.

The awards event recognises building contractors from across Australia that have delivered exceptional projects, often while overcoming extraordinary challenges.

Watpac’s awards included Certificates of High Commendation for the One Macquarie Street luxury apartments at Teneriffe in Brisbane, the Airgate 4 Project at Southridge Industrial Estate in Sydney, and the Australian Film Television and Radio School Project, also in Sydney.

The building company was also presented with Professional Excellence Awards for the $43 million Sir Llew Edwards Building at the University of Queensland’s St Lucia campus in Brisbane, and for the $216 million Single LEAP Stage 1 project, which involved the construction of accommodation for Defence personnel at Amberley and Enoggera in Brisbane, and at Holsworthy in Sydney.

Managing Director Greg Kempton says the awards are fitting recognition for the high quality work undertaken by the Construction division.

“Being recognised by an industry body such as the Australian Institute of Building at a national level is a great honour for Watpac, and our project teams,” Kempton says.

“Each of these projects is demonstrative of the high level of knowledge and skill our staff possess, as they continually develop innovative solutions to project challenges and meet the parameters of the project every time,” he says.

“I congratulate the project teams on these well-deserved awards, and look forward to their continued success.”

The Australian Institute of Building represents building professionals, associate professionals and technicians engaged in building practice, teaching or research throughout Australia and overseas.
