Local councils in Queensland have been granted an extra $378 million to invest in infrastructure, including local roads.

The extra cash as part of the Federal Government's Financial Assistance Grant will be shared by the 73 local governments in the State.

Councils have already received $259.3 million so far this year.

According to Federal Minister for Infrastructure Anthony Albanese, the most recent contribution is the equivalent to $90 for every Queenslander and will help councils deal with the effects of the global financial crisis.

“The grant is untied so that Queensland councils can spend these funds on local priorities such as local roads,” Albanese says.
