EESTech has awarded the exclusive Australian rights for its JetWater thermal desalination system to Clontarf-based Impulse Hydro.

Specialising in water purification, Impulse Hydro recently secured its first contract using the JetWater System in the Queensland coal seam gas (CSG) industry.

The first sale was on the basis of a one-off contract arrangement that allows access as a project demonstration site that will be remotely monitored by EESTech.

It will also provide a platform for the introduction and testing of future technology enhancements.

The need to clean contaminated water in the CSG extraction process has been deemed paramount in a new State policy.

It states that gas producers are not allowed to continue to store contaminated water in holding ponds, or be discharged into waterways.

Existing evaporation ponds also have to be remediated within three years.

Impulse Hydro will use a combination of reverse osmosis and the thermal desalination of the JetWater System to clean contaminated water, effectively reducing over 90 percent of evaporation ponds.

EESTech CEO Murray Bailey says the interest shown by other gas producers validates the methodology of using both reverse osmosis and the JetWater system as the most cost effective solution for the problem.

“This has widespread immediate application in the growing coal seam gas industry in Australia, as well as in other mines which will be required to clean their waste water before it can be discharged,” Bailey says.

“The major benefit of the technology is that it can purify up to 97 percent of the feed-water, compared to less than 75 percent by most membrane systems,” he says.

EESTech (Economically and Environmentally Sustainable Technologies) owns the rights to three environmentally sustainable technologies, including JetWater, that have direct applications to the coal mining and energy industries.

The JetWater thermal desalination system has been rated in an international environmental and engineering consultant’s report as being one of the world’s leading water purification systems.
