Watpac’s construction division has been appointed the contractor for the construction of a data centre for Woolworths at Eastern Creek in NSW.
The $50 million project involves the construction of a 14,000-square-metre building to house three data halls and associated offices.
The team will also undertake civil works, such as roads and infrastructure, at the site.
It is anticipated works will commence on site at the end of June, with completion due in late 2010.
Watpac Managing Director Greg Kempton says the project is an exciting opportunity for the construction division in NSW.
“This project will involve a high level of technical expertise and we’re looking forward to beginning work soon,” he says.
“The project will generate up to 250 jobs on site and a further 100 jobs off site.
“The award of this contract is indicative of the excellent relationships we have established with our clients around the country and our reputation for quality construction.”
The construction division already has a number of high-profile projects under way in NSW, including the 8 Central Avenue complex in Australia Technology Park in Sydney, which will become home to Channel 7, Pacific Magazines and Global Television Services.
Also under construction are luxury apartments at Camperdown and student accommodation for the University of NSW at Kensington, among others.
