Brisbane electrical manufacturer, Power Electric Switchboards (PES), has been contracted to supply a motor control centre for an upgrade of the Carborough Downs Coal Mine.
The project is set to be completed in November 2009, and will pool resources from across Queensland to provide high-quality switchroom and control panels for the Bowen Basin mine.
Once a small engineering and mining business, PES was bought out by Drilling Project Services Australia in 2006.
Since then, it has more than tripled its capabilities, and will both design and manufacture equipment for the multi-million dollar contract at its 2,300-square-metre Darra workshop.
It will work in conjunction with fellow Brisbane manufacturers Ausco, and project manager Ausenco.
The introduction of a longwall mining system and development of the coal plant is expected to increase production of the mine’s coking coal and PCI by up to four million tonnes per year.
