Queensland's unemployment rate was steady in July at 6.8% (in both trend and seasonally adjusted terms), the lowest trend rate in 13 years. The national rate edged up by 0.1 percentage points to 6.2% (seasonally adjusted) as a result of a slight (700) decrease in full-time employment and a significant drop in part-time employment (54,500). Treasurer Terry Mackenroth says that despite a moderation in the past month, Queensland has created more jobs than any other state in the past year, recording annual jobs growth of 2.9% compared with 1.7% nationally. "This has been achieved despite a participation rate that is almost 1 percentage point higher than the national rate," he says.
